Jewish outreach in Ukraine

A new project will help non-observant Jews in a central Ukrainian city celebrate Passover.

Shiurei Torah Foundation, which operates as a part of the Jewish community of Dnepropetrovsk, launched the project.

Community activists organized a telephone campaign to identify Jews who do not regularly participate in Jewish communal life. Volunteers will help to acquaint them with the Passover commandments and invite them to participate in one of several communal seders.

TV star boosts new project to inspire future engineers

Television presenter and engineering enthusiast Dr Adam Hart-Davis is visiting the University to launch an initiative to inspire the next generation of engineers.

Engineering Explained is a project from the multi-award-winning Cardiff University spin-out company ‘science made simple’, which is based in the School of Physics and Astronomy.

Reaching some 20,000 people Engineering Explained will run interactive shows, workshops, events and festivals over the next two years for schools and other groups. It will show the wider public the diversity and excitement of engineering and its impact across the world.

On a lighter note (to balance out the subject of my last post), I want to tell you about a new personal project I’m working on — one I’m very excited about, maybe because it has nothing to do with parenting, or magazine writing, or book writing. It’s a much-needed diversion all in the name of personal enrichment

So, I wondered recently: Why couldn’t I try the whole pen pal thing again as an adult? Could I find a woman in another country, perhaps, who would be willing to write each other letters for a year via a blog that we’d share? What could we learn from each other — two strangers — about friendship and life and happiness through the experience?
