In the News: Senior Projects, Canadians learning Skills, Say Hello, and Athletics

First off, I gotta tell you, sometimes there will not always be a post every day. I always hope that I will have enough material to provide new projects for you to read about every day. Sometimes there are an abundance, and some days there are none. I will try to spread things out in between the upswings so that I can try to provide quality information every day.


Schools gear up for new project

Resources are being put into place to help students in Richmond County and across North Carolina decide upon and locate a mentor on the topic they chose for their graduation project.

Beginning with the class of 2010, all students will be required to score proficient (Level III or IV) on the five end-of-course assessments of algebra I, biology, English I, civics and economics, and U.S. history and successfully complete a graduation project.

Government of Canada Supports skills development and leadership among women in New Brunswick

SAINT JOHN, NB, April 23 /CNW Telbec/ - Immigrant and refugee women and other vulnerable women living in poverty will receive training in computer skills, life skills, leadership and effective communication, thanks to an investment by the Government of Canada.
On behalf of the Honourable Josée Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women and Official Languages, Mr. Rob Moore, Member of Parliament for Fundy Royal, today announced funding to PRUDE Inc. (Pride Race Unity Dignity Education), for its project, Breaking Free: Women’s Leadership Training and Skills Development.

Coming soon: Sidewalk smiles — Eagle Scout set to launch ‘Just say hi’ initiative

Andover High School senior Eric Simpson hopes to make Andover a friendlier place, one hello at a time.

Simpson, 17, is working on his Eagle Scout project, a campaign titled “just say hi,” involving art and social awareness in town. The project will fully launch in June, after he graduates, he said.

Simpson plans to paint and install murals around town, including at the town skate park, that will encourage residents to be a little more friendly and reach out, especially to folks they don’t know, he said.

CSU to launch project for athletic, academic centers

FORT COLLINS — College campuses tend to be scoffed at by athletes unless someone is tending to the issue of updating facilities and keeping a nice sheen on the place.

Colorado State announced Wednesday its most in-depth investment in decades for on-campus athletic purposes, as ground will be broken this summer on a $13 million indoor practice facility as well as a $7 million academic and training center near the site of Moby Arena. The athletic department has launched a fund-raising campaign; $1.785 million has already been secured, with $1.5 million coming as a gift from Brett and Danette Anderson, natives of Fort Collins and CSU graduates.
